The Courses program provides in-depth (non-credit) enrichment workshops and short courses on various areas of science, engineering and technology for children to discover science in a fun and educational way, using the unique resources of the Museum of Science.
Course Instructors develop and teach interactive short workshops and vacation time week programs in science, math and technology. Instructors may submit proposals for courses of their own design or work with Program Manager to deliver suggested programs. Participate in 5-10 hours of training provided by the Course Department staff on safety policies, science materials and recommended teaching skills for various audiences. Serve as a positive and enthusiastic role model. Summer and school vacation week employment is also a possibility.
*Work 3.5- 7 hours per weekend day, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This includes paid development time not to exceed classroom hours.
*Candidates are expected to commit to a minimum of 2 classes per month from late September through early June, Saturdays and/or Sundays. February and April school vacation weeks are also an option as is full time summer employment.
*Pay rate will vary depending on teaching experience. Instructors will be paid for development time not to exceed classroom hours.
Qualifications of the Candidate
Bachelor´s Degree plus 1-3 years´ related experience
*Excellent verbal communication skills
*Strong background in science or science education
*Experience leading groups of children in mixed age and family based settings
*Experience teaching in an informal or formal education setting
*Good organizational skills
*Creativity and enthusiasm for science and for children
